Spring Forage & Fire, June 28, 2025
Our Spring forage is crafted for you to experience a deep understanding food, culture, place and the wild edibles that grow around you.
Our day will include a leisurely trail walk through the nearby woods along the East Coast Trail, a trail system hiked by guests from around the world. Along the way, you’ll discover the spring bounty of wild edibles, hidden treasures that Lori has learned to work with. This time will leave you with a deeper understanding of the intricate relationship between humans and nature and how modern day chefs and food enthusiasts are also learning to work with what the land provides.
As you gather around the fire you'll be treated to her mothers homemade bread and a few taste of this land and sea. Steeped in the rich Irish history of the Southern Shores Irish Loop, it’s a time to settle in to a few stories around the fire. Each dish tells a story, passed down through generations, connecting the present to the past.
This time together will give us all time to share a stories and Lori the opportunity to share the significance of these foods to the resilient people of this island, who have relied on them for sustenance and comfort through generations of her family.
Our time together at Food Culture Place, has been created to remind you of the profound connection between food, community, and the land that sustains them. You’ll leave your time here with a deeper understanding of the beauty of Newfoundland’s wild plants but more than that a little bit of culinary heritage for you to pass on to those around you.
