Flat Stitch Beadwork Circle: June 29th | 10-1pm
Date: June 29th, 2025
Time: 10:00am - 1:00pm
Where: Food Culture Place HQ, Mobile, NL
Description of Workshop:
This workshop has been generously subsidized by our Wildcrafted Weavers group so that families and friends can more easily partake in this experience together. All proceeds from this workshop will go back into similar future activities so that families can enjoy shared space together crafting
Step into a space of creativity and shared tradition as we gather for a day of beading, storytelling, and connection. This workshop is an invitation to slow down, work with your hands, and immerse yourself in the rhythm of flat-stitch beadwork as it has been passed down and practiced by our instructor, Kelly Young.
We’ll begin with a smudging ceremony to clear our minds and set our intentions. Our instructor would also like to share the gift of song, opening and closing our time together with the steady heartbeat of the drum. From there, we’ll settle into the meditative process of beading—choosing colors, threading needles, and stitching each bead with care.
Throughout the day, you’ll craft a pair of earrings, learning techniques in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where conversation flows as easily as creativity. Whether you’re an experienced beader or picking up a needle for the first time, this is a space to learn, share, and take your time.
We’ll spend 3 unrushed hours together, allowing everyone to work at their own pace. By the end, you’ll leave with a beautiful piece of beadwork and a deeper connection to both the craft and the traditions of the community who celebrates it.
Feel free to bring your own pair of small scissors to make the process even smoother. Otherwise, all materials and guidance will be provided.
